Residental Sprinklers
Residential sprinklers are fast response sprinklers that have been specifically investigated for their ability to enhance the survivability of occupants in the room of fire origin. They are intended to prevent flashover in the room of origin, thus improving the chance for occupants to escape or be evacuated. These sprinklers are FM Approved for use in the protection of dwelling units only. FM Approved sprinklers have been tested for effective performance as life safety devices at the minimum single sprinkler flow rates and maximum coverage areas listed in the Residential Sprinkler Minimum Flow Requirements Table below. These flow rates and coverage areas correspond to a discharge density equal to or greater than the minimum allowable discharge density of 0.05 gal/min/ft2 (2.04 mm/min), in accordance with NFPA 13R and 13D. FM Approved residential sprinklers have been determined to perform effectively as property protection devices when installed in accordance with the coverage area and density limitations specified in FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 3-26.
